- そ添えて 「おとうさん」「おはよう」と書く。ただし、「とおる（通る）」や「おおい（多い）」などの場合は、「お」と表記する。
In modern Japanese kana orthography, long o vowels are generally represented by adding う after a kana from the o-row, as in おとうさん (otōsan) and おはよう (ohayō). However, in words such as とおる (tōru, “to pass”) and おおい (ōi, “many”), the long vowel is written with お instead.
