1. Traditional geographic divisions of GreeceThe traditional geographic divisions of Greece (Greek: γεωγραφικά διαμερίσματα, lit. geographic departments) were also the official administrative subdivisions (or regions) of Greece until the 1987 administrative reform). Despite their replacement as first-level administrative units by the newly defined regions, the nine traditional geographic divisions - six on the mainland and three island groups - are still widely referred to in non-official contexts and in daily discourse.
