1. The Modern Industrial Heritage Sites in Kyushu and Yamaguchi​The Modern Industrial Heritage Sites in Kyushu and Yamaguchi are a grouping of historic sites that played an important part in the industrialization of Japan in the Bakamatsu and Meiji periods. In 2009 the monuments were submitted jointly for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List under criteria ii, iii, and iv. Currently the submission resides on the Tentative List. Eight candidate areas have been proposed, with thirty component sites:
