1. Sugamo child abandonment case​The affair of the four abandoned children of Sugamo (or Nishi-Sugamo) was an incident that took place in Japan in the late 1980s. The incident was covered extensively by both Japanese and international media, and became known in Japanese as Sugamo Kodomo Okizari Jiken . The story was fictionalized as the 2004 film Nobody Knows. The incident, in which a mother abandoned her four underage children, took place in 1988 in Tokyo's Toshima Ward.
