2. ArchbishopAn archbishop (from Greek ἀρχι-, chief, and ἐπίσκοπος, bishop) is a bishop of higher rank, but not of higher sacramental order above that of the three orders of deacon, priest, and bishop. Accordingly, a person does not become an archbishop by ordination.
