外人
2. outsiderArchaic, orig. meaning
3. GaijinGaijin is a Japanese word meaning "non-Japanese", or "alien". The word is composed of two kanji: gai, meaning "outside"; and jin, meaning "person" – thus, the word technically means "outsider". There are similarly composed words to refer to foreign things, most fundamentally gaikoku, but also to various other things such as the common words gaisha, gaika, and gaitame . The word can refer to nationality, race, or ethnicity, but in Japanese these are generally conflated.
