2. Ichiya KumagaeIchiya Kumagae was a Japanese tennis player and the first Japanese Olympic medalist. Born in Ōmuta, Fukuoka Prefecture, he is best known for his two Olympic silver medals at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics. It was Kumagae and Zenzo Shimizu who together established the earliest period of Japanese tennis. In 1917 he joined Mitsubishi Bank and worked in their New York branch bank office.
