流行歌
1. popular song; hit song
2. Ryūkōkais a Japanese music genre. The term originally means "popular music" in Japanese. Therefore, "Imayō", supported by Emperor Go-Shirakawa in the Heian period, was a kind of ryūkōka. As a specific musical genre, however, ryūkōka is regarded as Japanese popular music genre between late 1920s and early 1960s. Ryūkōka adopted the style of Western classical music. Ryūkōka ultimately split into two genres enka and poppusu. Unlike enka, archetypal ryūkōka songs did not use the kobushi method of singing.
