2. Shellfish poisoningThere are four syndromes called shellfish poisoning, which share some common features and are primarily associated with bivalve molluscs. These shellfish are filter feeders and, therefore, accumulate toxins produced by microscopic algae, such as dinoflagellates and diatoms, and cyanobacteria.
