Traditional nightcaps are brandy or a cream-based liqueur such as Irish cream or a bourbon. However Wine or Beer can often be considered a beverage of choice before bed as well. Due to the connotations of inviting someone back to one's room at the end of a date for a nightcap, the term has also become synonymous with an offer for sex.
