Deyang is a wealthy, mostly industrial city, with the Erzhong Heavy Machinery Company (中国二重）, Dongfang Electrical Company, and various high-tech industry contributing to its economy. It has a population of around 3,810,000 in 2004 and an area of 5818 km².
