Cartridge (firearms)A cartridge, also called a round, packages the bullet, propellant (usually either smokeless powder or gunpowder) and primer into a single unit within a containing metallic case that is precisely made to fit within the firing chamber of a firearm. The primer is a small charge of an impact-sensitive chemical mixture that can be located at the center of the case head or inside a rim. Remington also makes electrically fired cartridges and many larger military cartridges are electrically fired.
