1. Yoakum County, TexasYoakum County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,879. Its county seat is Plains. The county is named for Henderson King Yoakum, a Texas historian. Yoakum County is one of 30 prohibition or entirely dry counties in the state of Texas. In 1965, Recorded Texas Historic Landmark Number 5927 was placed at the county courthouse, acknowledging the 1876 creation of the county.
