1. Pochinok, Smolensk OblastPochinok is a town and the administrative center of Pochinkovsky District of Smolensk Oblast, Russia, located on the Khmara River 62 kilometers (39 mi) southeast of Smolensk. Population: 8,776; 9,578; 10,753. It was founded in 1868 as a railway station on the Riga–Oryol railroad. It was named after one of the many pochinok villages in Smolensk Governorate. The old Russian word pochinok (починок) means "a new settlement or village built on a clear spot".
