1. Afar RegionThe Afar Regional State is one of the nine Regional States of Ethiopia, and is the homeland of the Afar people. Formerly known as Region 2, its current capital is Aysa'iita; a new capital named Semera on the paved Awash - Asseb highway is under construction. The Afar Depression, also known under the outdated name Danakil depression, is a part of Great Rift Valley, Ethiopia, and the lowest point in Ethiopia and one of the lowest in Africa and is located in the north of the Region.
