2. Swedish LadderThe Swedish Ladder – a frame with horizontal bars, 'en ribbstol' in Swedish, was born in Sweden in the early 19th century. The poet, dramatist and fencing teacher Per Henrik Ling (1776–1839) used this wonderful exercise apparatus to develop a system of gymnastics that trains the body harmoniously. In 1813 by order of the king of Sweden Ling founded the Royal Gymnastic Central Institute in Stockholm for the training of gymnastic instructors.
