2. Sub-Saharan AfricaSub-Saharan Africa as a geographical term refers to the area of the continent of Africa that lies south of the Sahara. A political definition of Sub-Saharan Africa, instead, covers all African countries which are fully or partially located south of the Sahara. It contrasts with North Africa, which is considered a part of the Arab world. The Sahel is the transitional zone between the Sahara and the tropical savanna and forest-savanna mosaic to the south.
