Question - What does めれて mean here?

I understand everything else but the part I don't understand is the use of "めれて” in this sentence. I think I would still understand the translation without it. So what I want to know is why is it used here and what it adds to this sentence. Thanks in advance for any replies.

It's ぬれて, not めれて.

ぬれる (濡れる in kanji) means "to get wet."
