This is a discussion about

Kanji use outdated

Hello! I am wondering about the note on this kanji saying its usage is outdated. I learned this kanji in an intermediate Japanese class, and they didnt make mention of this. Is it actually outdated? Will you just see the hiragana instead most commonly in Japan nowadays?

it says:

髮: Out-dated kanji or kanji usage.

nowhere does it say using 髪 is outdated

take a proper look at the entry or use your browser's zoom function if you still can't see the difference between those two Kanji

Yeah, there are two different forms being compared there. The one you learned is the 新字体 and therefore obviously not outdated. The one marked as outdated is the 旧字体. It's admittedly a bit hard to spot the difference at the scale in question.
