Looing at the sentences on Tatoeba, where they come from, the English sentence appears to be older. Says it was from in January, while the two different Japanese sentences (one of which doesn't use past tense) were from later.

Either way, I don't think you can say that the English sentence "should" be different based on that Japanese sentence, since the English came first. They might both be translations of sentences from other languages. Maybe there's an easy way to see the dependencies of all the sentences. I'm not super familiar with Tatoeba.
I don't know how Jisho decides which to grab, maybe just the newest one, regardless of which language the Japanese sentence is a translation of.
Er... never mind about January. I think the English sentence is WAY older. And it's just the two Japanese sentences that got added recently. I think. Anyway, point stands overall, but the English sentence has been around for a long time it seems.
Okay, I think I finally figured out how to read the site lol... I guess the Japanese sentence with ました was indeed first, but it got updated with furigana recently, which is what made me confused about the timeline?
Anyway, as noted, there's even a second Japanese sentence in there, which doesn't make sense if you think about it, because that would mean the Japanese is a translation of the Japanese?
But I guess all you care about is what shows up on Jisho, right? Well, you could try adding another English sentence? Since this is an automated process that will always potentially change on the fly, I think it would be unreasonable to ask the creator of Jisho to run around playing whack-a-mole with Tatoeba sentences.

The translation is not correct. ~ました makes the sentence PAST tense. So it means it was to big, not that it currently is too big.
Correct translation should be:
"This was too big."
