Where did coronabirisu come from though? They say uirisu, not birisu.

Jisho knows "ビールス" for "virus".
So "birusu" is acceptable when ignoring long vowels.

The existence of an entry for ビールス in a dictionary doesn't mean it's acceptable to say コロナビールス. No one says that.

I mean, people might not correct you because that's how Japanese people can be sometimes, but you won't hear them use that.

Well, there are songs like "恋のビールス" where the singer clearly says "ビールス" (check the youtube link at 00:28).
So, that pronounciation for "virus" is known in Japan and at least some people may also use it when refering to Covid-19.

If you check google, of course the use of "コロナウイルス" over "コロナビールス" is more prevalent, but there are also news articles like the one linked below where "コロナビールス" is given as an alternative spelling to "コロナウイルス".

So while pronouncing it as "ウイルス" definitely seems more widespread, there are no indications saying "ビールス" is wrong.

Fair enough. "seems more widespread" is a bit of an understatement... I've been in Japan throughout the pandemic and heard コロナウイルス / ウイルス thousands of times and コロナビールス / ビールス precisely zero times, but it has been used by someone somewhere I guess.

It's kinda like 小女 being listed in the other forms section for 少女 but I have never ever seen it written that way. I think there has to be a threshold to how prevalent it has to be for it to be listed in a dictionary.
