Japanese pronunciation is quite straightforward and unambiguous, with a few minor exceptions related to particles, which wouldn't come into play with a single word. Can you link examples of what you think is differing pronunciations?
So far it is between being said almost how it looks but with the last letter sounding like a u (On-rhi-u) or with the r in the middle sounding more like a d (On-dy-o)... if that makes sense?
The last character of う does not sound like う when it is functioning like a vowel extender here. It just lengthens the お sound that came earlier. There are historical reasons for this particular spelling convention. When you see an お sound followed by an う in an onyomi reading, it's just extending the お sound.
With regard to the pronunciation of り, it's true that English speakers are likely to hear r-like and d-like aspects, because it is not truly the same as either of those in English. But it only has one pronunciation, so there shouldn't be any actual variation in how it gets read.
The pronunciation website Forvo has one recording for 怨霊 and it sounds correct to me, so you can refer to that.
Thank you so much for your help!
