This is a discussion about 半々

Pronunciation of 半々 はんはん

I live and work in Japan, and I hear people saying Han-pan はんぱん as the pronunciation for this word. Yet Jisho lists this with the pronunciation of はんはん

Often with repeating Kanji, the second sound changes. I'm just wondering which is right, and whether or not this needs updating?

Cheers!

If you can find a reference that includes that definition, then feel free to suggest an update to JMdict (Jisho has no direct control over the entries, they just use freely available databases). Japanese dictionaries I see all list はんはん as the reading of 半々.

Native speakers read a ton of words in the "wrong" way all the time. If the people you converse with read it one way, I would just do like them. Do you say いそん or いぞん, れんじゅう or れんちゅう etc. It doesn't really matter but I tend to go with the more popular variants in regular everyday speech.
