This is a discussion about 窮鳥懐に入れば猟師も殺さず

Sugihara Chiune / 杉原 千畝

This kotowaza is said to have inspired Sugihara Chiune, Vice Consul for Japan in Lithuania during WWII, to save the lives of six thousand Jews during the Holocaust by issuing visas. I wish both the saying and this righteous man could be more widely known.

There is a movie about Sugihara's story, actually. I recommend it.
