This is a discussion about 粋人

Actual meaning of 粋人

Hi,
I was just wondering if this is "man of the world" is the actual meaning for 粋人(and what is that supposed to mean?!) or the fact that this is some kind of error because in a book I have called "Remembering the Kanji 2", it says that it means "romantic fellow; dandy" which made me abit confused. If someone can clear this misunderstanding, I would be thankful

Based on the meaning of the first character, and what rtk2 puts it as, I guess it must mean 'exemplary person'

"Man of the world" is another way of saying dandy. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/man+of+the+world

I'm not sure that I would say that "man of the world" and "dandy" are synonyms. Dandyism has to do with how one dresses, where as being a man of the world refers to having a wide range of experiences..

The definition of 粋人 in Japanese has three senses: an individual interested in elegance and refinement; a worldly individual; an individual who is well-known in red-light districts and thus a man about town.
Interestingly, the gender of the individual is not specified, although perhaps it is implied:

This differs a bit from the definition in English of a "dandy". They're distinguished by their grooming, not intelligence or social connections:
