2. Enthronement of the Japanese EmperorThe enthronement of the Emperor of Japan is an ancient ceremony which marks the accession of a new ruler to the Chrysanthemum Throne, in the world's oldest continuous hereditary monarchy. The ritual is not a coronation, as no crown or other headgear is bestowed upon the emperor. However, various other ancient regalia are given to the new sovereign during the course of the rite.
