This is a discussion about じめじめ

katakana spelling?

Hello, I've seen ジメジメ and I wonder if it's an alternative spelling?

Why wouldn't it be? Basically anything can be written in hiragana or katakana if you want.

Here is my question, with more details:
I saw that most of the time, onomatopoeic words are often written in katakana.
Is there a general rule about how to write repeated mora onomatopoeic words?
For instance, is "じめじめ" more often used than "ジメジメ"?

I'm not sure about generally, but if you want an idea of how things are used in fiction, checking a site like jpdb would probably address your questions to some extent.
