奏でる's old meaning

Why does 奏でる mean "to dance" but is considered obsolete, I've heard the song 奏 by Sukima switch and that's how I found out about this word.

I'm not sure what you mean by "why". I think it's not hard to see how dancing is related to playing music. But it just doesn't get used that way in modern Japanese. Languages change over time.
