This is a discussion about 決める

Furigana mistake in the example sentence for the first definition?

I am confused about the furigana in the first example sentence. It reads 決める as きわめる. I have never seen that reading before, but I am not proficient enough to know if that is a mistake or just a thing I don't know.

The sentence contains 極める, not 決める. The issue is probably that 極める can indeed be read as either きわめる or きめる. But the reading of きわめる is much more common than きめる for 極める. So, no 決める is not read as きわめる, and the sentence should be listed under the entry for きわめる, not きめる.
