This is a discussion about 無くなる

I can't figure out this verb form....

買いすぎて、お金がなくなっちゃったんだ。 (From Genki, lesson 18). Can someone please explain なくなっちゃった for me? Jisho says it's a form of なくなる. The translation makes sense, but I can't find an explanation of this verb form.

Thanks in advance for any help....

ちゃった is a colloquial form of てしまった, when you have a て form plus the past tense of しまう.

The applicable meaning of しまう is seen in definition 5 here
https://jisho.org/word/%E4%BB%95%E8%88%9E%E3%81%86

ちゃう has its own entry as well
https://jisho.org/word/%E3%81%A1%E3%82%83%E3%81%86

So for the changes in form you have なくなってしまう to
なくなってしまった to
なくなっちゃった

to reply.
