I'm told by an insightful university student that recently (mid 2018) 忖度 has been being used ironically as an admission that sometimes Japanese employees are rather bound up by their surmising, and thus never blow the whistle on a superior. As a result, numerous Japanese companies have only recently been caught out falsifying financial or technical performance reports. I'm thinking Toshiba's finances, Nissan's fuel statistics, Toyo's earthquake safety false advertising and the like.

While I've heard these things, I'm struggling to find a readable Japanese news source that documents this trend with the word. Can anyone help?
