Meaning and Explanation Inquiry

Greetings,
I would like to know more about these four kanji. I've seen this in a kendo dojo as well as other sport and martial arts facilities hung up on a wall for all to see. A reminder or inspiration perhaps, a start to a very good teaching or lesson.
