Race to the bottomA race to the bottom is a socio-economic concept that is argued to occur between countries, states, provinces or territories as an outcome of regulatory competition, progressive taxation policies and social welfare spending. When competition becomes fierce between nations over a particular area of trade and production, countries are given increased incentive to dismantle currently existing regulatory standards.
