Taoyuan City is located in this county and serves as the seat of Taoyuan County. While Zhongli is the largest urban district of Taoyuan County, it is home to major factories and technological headquarters. "Taoyuan" means "garden of peach," since the area used to have many peach blossoms. Taoyuan is the native home to the Pingpu tribe of Aborigines.
