As of April 1, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 79,755, with 34,413 households and a population density of 1,307.89 persons per km². The total area is 60.98 km². Tatebayashi is famous for Azalea Hill Park and Bunbuku Chagama of Morinji Temple. The city was founded on April 1, 1954 and its current mayor is Kazuo Yasuraoka.
