Wikipedia definition
2. Boundary element methodThe boundary element method (BEM) is a numerical computational method of solving linear partial differential equations which have been formulated as integral equations (i.e. in boundary integral form). It can be applied in many areas of engineering and science including fluid mechanics, acoustics, electromagnetics, and fracture mechanics. (In electromagnetics, the more traditional term "method of moments" is often, though not always, synonymous with "boundary element method".)
