how to specify english word search

For example, I write "to shine", but jisho thinks I look for "と しね". What am I doing wrong?

In general when searching, drop the "to" part of the search and just look up the verb. (http://jisho.org/search/shine)

Is it possible you could give and example sentence you're trying to put together? Frequently "光る" is used for many "bright" applications.

If Jisho thinks you are searching in Japanese when you in fact want to searching in English you can put quote marks (") around the search term to keep it from converting to Japanese.

Can you post a URL to the search you are doing? When I search for "to shine" I get the expected result. http://jisho.org/search/to%20shine
